An Intermediary Service for Birth Relatives Seeking an Adopted Adult

If you live in Cheshire and a child of your own or a relative within your family was adopted (such as a brother or sister) and that child is now at least 18 years old, you may be able to access information about that adopted person. Depending on the circumstances, you may be able to have some contact. If the child (now an adult) was adopted before 12th November 1975 you have the right to an 'intermediary service'. Cheshire's Adoption Service can offer an intermediary service. This service can involve the following:

- preparatory work with the applicant

- obtaining information

- using the information to trace and contact individuals

- acting as an intermediary between the applicant and the subject and facilitating contact

- providing counselling, support and advice

If the child was adopted on or after 12th November 1975 you can request an intermediary service from us and we hope to be be able to offer such a service. However those adoptions that took place before 12th November 1975 will be prioritised.
